|             A beautiful moment occurs in the Spring when the peonies in my garden are in bloom. As this happens I am absolutely compelled to paint them. They are only in flower for a couple of weeks and it is one headlong rush to see how many paintings I can create before the blooms are spent. This year I painted twelve canvasses and some of these can be viewed in this section. First the deep red peonies emerge followed by the vivid pink which mimic tissue paper flowers. Shortly afterward come the white and light pink varieties. I have recently planted two new varieties and these are most exciting to paint because they have such an exotic form. It is a challenge to reproduce these flowers in oil paint. They are large and change every ten minutes. I never photograph them and I always paint from life. For me, painting is my way to immortalize this beautiful moment and eternalize it.
